About
My name is Allison and I am a graduate student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, where I am earning my Master’s degree in International Environmental Policy. My bachelor’s degree is in literature and writing, with a minor in political science. My current course of study and work is my attempt to synthesize all of my disparate interests into the life that I want to live. It appears that in order to make this work, it will be a busy one.
I am currently living in Amman, Jordan for two months, where I am doing an internship with an international environmental NGO. I am also doing some independent research and writing on the side, while simultaneously trying to see as much of this part of the world as possible to justify the ridiculously expensive plane ticket it took to get me here, as well as the tripling of my carbon footprint.
I love to travel and to write, and my hope for this blog is that it can be an entertaining account of my experiences overseas in my quest to understand what exactly humanity is doing to the world and how I can be involved in saving a few of the things that I value. These things include nature, trees, water, unique cultures, and animals other than spiders. I most enjoy trips and experiences that take me to places where people are environmentally aware, engaged, involved and just as scared shitless about the future as I am. That said, being in places where this is not the case (ahem, Amman, ahem) is maybe the best way to learn what the world is up against.
I don’t really know who I am writing this for other than myself and those who want to know where in the world I am and what I am doing, but if it can be of interest to other travelers, wanderers and seekers of sustainability, then I hope you read on.
I’m planning to go to Jordan early 2009 and have come across your blog while doing some research.

Thanks Kate! I’m glad you enjoyed my blog–if you have any pre-departure questions about Jordan that I could help with, feel free to ask.
| Posted 1 year, 2 months agoliar. you are soooo not “currently living in Amman, Jordan for two months…” etc etc. and before you protest with,
“that’s not a lie, it’s simply an expired truth!” i’ll add,
“well, lies don’t have to be intentional to be true. some of the best lies are accidents.”
| Posted 1 year, 2 months agops to make up for my last comment, you are an amazing writer. seems you have a great ability to distill significant events from a much larger and complex narrative in order to make it palatable and digestible to people who are on the outside looking in. or at least that’s my take on it.
